Are you looking at kickstarting a new business, or do you need help with an existing small business? The SBDC holds a number of workshops that can give you the information you need to make your business a success. They are presented by business professionals with years of experience and the knowledge to assist you in developing your idea into a successful venture. The cost is $50 incl. GST per workshop, and this includes a manual and refreshments. Some of the workshops we have coming up are:
Contracting Today: 27th October, 9:30am - 12pm
Are you a subcontractor, or looking at hiring subcontractors? The difference between an employee and an independent contractor is important as it has significant taxation and legal implications. This workshop explains the structure and content of a contract, the different types of contracts, basic rules relating to contracting, and how to deal with issues such as resolving disputes. Includes the publication "Laymans Guide to Contract Law - Contract Law Made Easy" valued at $29.95.
Costing and Pricing of Goods and Services: 27th October, 1pm - 3pm
Are you unsure what you should charge for your products/services? Effective pricing is key to ensure that you generate enough sales, while at the same time ensuring the sales you do make earn enough to turn a profit. This workshop will provide you with the information you need to make pricing decisions.
Introduction to Business Planning: 29th October, 9:30am - 12pm
Did you know that around 80% of new small businesses will fail within 5 years of starting? Often, the reason for this is that they don't have an effective business plan. This workshop describes how to create a plan that will detail where you are, where you want to be, and how to get there. Also included is a 224-page workbook and CD-Rom which describes each step in detail, along with a template and sample plans, which is valued at $25.
Getting Your Business on the Web: 29th October, 9:30am - 12pm
An effective web presence is often an essential part of running a small business today. This workshop will give you the knowledge to go from "I need a website" to "I KNOW what I need in my website". Learn how to make the most of the internet to help achieve business success.
How to Start a Business: 29th October, 1pm - 3pm
One of our most popular workshops. Are you thinking about launching a new business but don't know where to start? This introductory course will give you all the basic knowledge needed to establish and run a small business. It covers topics such legal structures, the business plan, and marketing and research. Also included is the publication "A Guide to Operating a Small Business" valued at $25.
Marketing and Promoting Your Business: 29th October, 1pm-3pm
Marketing is an often-undervalued aspect of a small business, but is one of the most essential parts of a successful business strategy. It is more than just advertising and selling, and is directly responsible for the creation of sales that will make your business profitable. This workshop covers topics such as researching, planning, pricing, packaging, promoting, selling and distributing your goods and services to consumers.
