Growing a Business Expand into Exporting
How Can I expand my Market?
Getting into export can be easier than you think and opens up a world of possibilities.
If you have set up an efficient and effective business and it’s built up a good customer base here in Western Australia, and you feel that you’re ready to take that next big step into exporting your goods or services to the world, there is a large range of information and support available from various Government organisations.
If you’re a first time exporter the SBDC runs a 4 hour workshop “Exporting starts with an 'e'”, which introduces you to using the internet for exporting. There is also the TradeStart program which can help you break into the export market.
TradeStart is a package of free services to assist your business to develop overseas markets and make your first export sale! Offered to you by the SBDC in partnership with Austrade, TradeStart can assist you to:
Assess your export capability
- Review your export capability and evaluate export readiness;
- Identify target markets; and
- Provide advice on financial and management issues.
Prepare for your selected market
- Advise on international marketing strategies and your marketing plan;
- Provide feedback on promotional material;
- Inform you of economic conditions and commercial practices in your target markets;
- Evaluate the suitability of your product/service for target markets.
Visit your selected market
- Make appointments with selected relevant business contacts;
- Arrange interpreters and translation of documents (at your cost);
- Briefings by Austrade staff in-market on local practices and culture.
- Follow through by your export advisor
- Assess the outcomes of your visit;
- Assist you to achieve maximum impact from the visit.
Your reward for taking up this personalised support will be a business which is export ready, has properly identified target markets, has market contacts and is well briefed on local practices and cultures.
To be eligible, your business must have:
- A current ABN;
- Australia as its main place of business;
- Not completed TradeStart, the former Export Access program, or received Austrade's new exporter services during the last three years (some exemptions apply);
- No recurrent export revenue in the same market over the last three years; and
- Most importantly, be willing to commit time and resources to the program and possibly undertake overseas market visits at your own cost.
